Toulmin drive - St Albans

The site was a family house based in St. Albans in Hertfordshire.

The family living in the house felt the layout and space inside was impractical and restricted. They also needed another bedroom to accommodate the growing family. Gestalt Developments proposed the idea of a double storey side extension and a single storey side extension to create an open plan living space on the ground floor and an additional master bedroom with an ensuite bathroom on the first floor. The family also wanted a full refurbishment of the interior of the house, including the kitchen, lighting and décor, to give the house a well needed update.

Toulmin Drive is a residential area with the majority of sites consisting of two-storey single households, all with a traditional look, so the design team at Gestalt had to carefully propose a design to fulfil the family's needs, as well as keep in line with the traditional street scope. We're proud to say we achieved that, and obtained planning permission in only a few weeks. We managed to achieve the open space living area, lounge and kitchen on the ground level, allowing the family to use and experience the space the way they always envisioned.
